Testimonials

  • “My daughter has significant disabilities and has received Music Therapy for over 10 years. MT has been an integral part of Kaci's life - it stimulates her abilities to function...improving her total quality of life. I have personally seen what a tremendous difference MT has made in Kaci's life - you can see how she lights up and responds to music, a fun therapy that works on her whole mind and body.”

  • “Thank you [music therapists] for your efforts that make music enjoyable, fun and accessible to those who cannot do so for themselves. Dodie really enjoys sharing and participating with the therapist as they play and sing. She also enjoys holding instruments and joining in when she can - it gives her the feeling of being a part of the music interaction. ”

    Anna & Bobby Walker, Parents
  • “Music touches so many aspects of a person's development and is used to improve functions in multiple areas. Interventions can include: sensory integration, adaptive instrument play, song writing, relaxation to music and articulating words for improved speech while singing. These skills learned can generalize to their education or home setting for increased independence.”

History

Since 1989, CTMTA has been supporting the needs of music therapists in the Central Texas area through education, promotion of music therapy and resource sharing among its members.

Founders Judith Jellison, Linda Lininger, and Wendy Wolfner understood the importance of music therapy and knew that a combined voice would become a strong advocate for increasing the depth and breadth of music therapy in people's daily lives. Over the last two decades, CTMTA has created pertinent benefits for members, and has raised awareness of music therapy by providing resources to the target community.

Currently, CTMTA members reside as far north as Temple, south to San Antonio, west to Kerrville and Fredericksburg, and east to Seguin. They serve the needs of scores of individuals, organizations and special interest groups.

CTMTA meets six times per year alternating between the third Monday and the third Thursday of September, October, January, May, and July. Meeting locations rotate between New Braunfels and San Marcos.

We host our annual one day conference in September.

Our members are available to each other, and bring a strong sense of community to our group.
